Kelby and Reid attended the Kingwood HS basketball camp. It was an opportunity to meet their coaches for next year and start playing with the new kids they will be with from Riverwood MS
Briana, Grandad and Netta spent one week in Orlando at Disneyworld. Last year it was the grandboys turn, so this year the grandgirl got to go on a trip. She called home everyday to talk about all the fun things she rode and did.
The twins spent the week at Rice University at their basketball camp. The boys were moved up from the 9th-10th grade camp and played with 11th-12th grade boys. The head of the camp, Coach Herndon, has worked with the boys most of the year and decided they were up to the challenge of playing with older boys. Reid won an award because his team won the camp tournament at the end of the week. They both received evaluations from the Rice coaching staff and told me they were very tired because the coaches worked them hard all week.
Today we buried our Mammaw. I had to serve as a pallbearer and my sons were honorary pallbearers. It was tough, but I realized that she had a long and fruitful life. She influenced not only her family, but everyone she came in contact with. Indirectly everyone that I influence and my children influence, she will continue to influence. Although she never traveled far from home, she has been all over the world with me. I don’t think I ever saw her angry or raise her voice to anyone, but she had a subtle way of getting what she wanted.
I will miss coming home and sitting at the table in the morning eating homemade biscuits. I will miss bringing her “gourmet” coffee every Christmas. I will just miss sitting in the same room with her knowing that there was always at least one place in the world that I was welcome, could get a bite to eat and stay for the night and get some peace from this busy world.
My kids commented how quiet it was when we got to her house to change for the funeral home. I hope that the house doesn’t sit quiet for very long and that my family will continue to use it to gather and share more good times that are ahead.
Today I found out that my grandmother and the kids great-grandmother passed away at her home. She was 91 years old and she will be greatly missed. Luckily my kids knew her very well and our last visit was for Easter.
This will be the first close family member that my daughter has lost and the last time the twins lost a close family member was when they were very young.
Kelby and Reid both won numerous awards at the 8th grade sports banquet. They were both recognized for all the sports they played in. Kelby won a special award for cross-country for finishing in the top 20 (out of 100 runners) at the district meet. Reid also won the “Colt” award for track and field. Both Kelby and Reid shared the “Heart and Hustle” award for basketball.
It was a good night and I was very proud of them, plus they both dressed up for the occasion.
Pictures of the event can be found on the WWW website.
The boys team did not win a game in this tournament. However Kelby took over as starting point guard and he did a good job. I hope this is the start of something great for him.
Sunday the boys basketball team pulled out a great victory to win third place in the New Caney Spring Tournament. With this win the team received an invite to the National Tournament to be held in Dallas.
This week was the end for Briana’s soccer season. She played in one game on Wednesday and unfortunately missed the last game due to a scheduling mixup. However she joined her team for lunch and received a medal for her play this season.
Kelby and Reid played two games in this week’s basketball tournament.
Their team won the first game, but lost game 2. Kelby and Reid both played great defense and are doing a great job taking care of the ball. In game 2 they Reid scored 6 points and Kelby scored 4.
They will play Sunday in the 3rd place game.
